About the Artist
Jeweler Dori McClennen was born and grew up in Lycoming County, PA. She attended the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Education. She taught middle school in Philadelphia, PA...reading, writing and arithmetic and then became at stay at home mom before discovering jewelry metals. 18 years ago she began her study under Kim Boyle. Remembering her childhood love of collecting stones, it was a natural progression for her to using semi-precious gems in her designs.
Her pieces are hand fabricated in sterling silver with semi-precious gemstones. Each piece starts with sheet, wire and gemstone for her inspiration. She tends towards flowers, curvy shapes and sinuous lines. First, she sketches on paper around the chosen gemstones, then she builds the pieces from flat silver sheets and silver wire. Dori makes her own embellishments using precious metal clay fired in a kiln and/or by saw piercing them. In this way the stones dictate the character of the piece and each piece is individual..
Dori is a teaching artist who loves to share her knowledge. She currently teaches for the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA. She teaches because she enjoys the interactions with other artists and the rewarding feeling when someone successfully completes their own design. She teaches the process, not the product. She wants her students to learn how to engineer their own designs. Every week they learn new skills that build on what they learned previously with an emphasis on studio safety. That means that work is an extended process and gratifying.
A Master Artisan and Haverford Guild Member, Dori participates in HGC Shows, The Wallingford Community Arts Center's Fall Festival, The Daylesford Abbey Show, Media's Green Sunday, Swarthmore's Farmer's Market, and The Wallingford Community Arts Center's Holiday Show.
When you purchase a piece of her jewelry, we hope you'll enjoy it for many years to come.
